Notice of Modification to the List of Permitted Carrier or Extraction Solvents to Extend the Use of Certain Solvents to Non-flavouring Extracts

Reference Number: NOM/ADM-0188

Background

From time to time, Health Canada may make modifications to the Lists of Permitted Food Additives, to align the lists with amendments of Part B of the Food and Drug Regulations (Regulations).

Health Canada published the Regulations Amending the Food and Drug Regulations and the Cannabis Regulations (Supplemented Foods) in the Canada Gazette, Part II creating a regulatory framework for the sale of supplemented foods in Canada. As a result, Health Canada modified the List of Permitted Carrier or Extraction Solvents to extend the use of certain solvents to the manufacture of non-flavouring extracts, caffeine extracts, or both, that may be used as ingredients in supplemented foods. This modification is effective July 21, 2022.

The purpose of this communication is to publically announce the Department's decision in this regard and to provide the appropriate contact information for inquiries or feedback on this modification.
